As a Senior Software Engineering Manager, you will manage an outstanding distributed software engineering team passionate about building and running highly scalable, fault tolerant, and globally distributed platforms that help transform and power Nike’s business. 


–  You will help build and deliver modern foundational platforms that provide data engineering orchestration capabilities and optimize the enterprise level data integration landscape

–  Drive your team to establish standard methodologies, define success and develop critical metrics to continuously evolve feature delivery and scale production operations

–  Own end-to-end Engineering Delivery of your platforms. Manage specific team budget and develop annual operating plans in alignment with roadmap and platform strategy

–  When moving quickly, requirements and technical direction may not always be clear, and the Engineering Manager is encouraged to step in, set that direction, measure results, and adjust

–  Distribute technical work during sprint planning and ensure product and technical features are delivered on spec and timely

–  Ensure solutions are crafted and developed using a scalable and resilient cloud native architecture

–  Coach, mentor, grow, groom and hire best-in class engineering talent

–  Embrace and embody Nike’s core values (maxims) in your work and interactions with peers, partners, and your teammates


–  Partner and engage with multiple data engineering squads and their leadership to align on platform-centric roadmap and requirements that will support thousands of data engineers and data scientists

–  Work closely with engineering leadership, product leadership, architects, and program to develop and contribute to foundational platform roadmaps

–  Collaborate with Principal Engineers and Principal Architects to develop tools and frameworks for improving security, reliability, maintainability, availability, scalability, self-serviceability, and performance of your platform’s foundation


–  Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or another relevant subject

–  Background in leading / managing platforms / products in the Data Engineering and Orchestration space; experience with modern data platforms such as Kafka, Airflow, NiFi, Spark, etc.

–  Demonstrated 5+ years of experience in leading technical teams and comes from a strong technology background (developing teams, building scalable, cloud-based applications)

–  Deep foundational knowledge of software engineering practices, particularly on distributed systems and cloud native architectures

–  Strong communication, ability to influence, solve multifaceted problems, and leadership ability while being a great teammate are a must

–  Ability to articulate a vision and strategy in a way that inspires and motivates a team and focuses their energy on achieving business goals

–  High emotional intelligence with the ability to bring diverse groups together to solve common goals

–  Focused leader of people and teams dedicated to empowering and growing team members rooted in trust and aligned to Nike’s Maxims

–  Skilled in providing analysis and estimation of the strategic and financial value of new products / features

–  Pragmatic approach, highly focused on delivery and customer value rooted in continuous delivery of elite, resilient, scalable systems

–  Tech exposure preferred: AWS Cloud, Python, API, CI/CD automation, Kubernetes, Docker, Apache Airflow, Kafka, NiFi, Spark, etc.
