PCB Technician

Cognex Corporation

This is a Full-time position in Portland, OR posted August 18, 2021.

This position assists in the development of electronic systems that make up the company’s In-Sight and Dataman line of smart cameras and accessories.

This will involve work with building, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing prototype boards, as well as helping to prove out designs through the instrumentation and measurement of key properties of circuits and assemblies.

Essential Functions:

· Build PCB’s using bread and proto boards from schematics

· Solder PCB’s using micro-tip solder stations and microscopes

· Build a variety of cables from communications to power and I/O

· Test PCB’s and circuits, analyzing failures as needed

· Manage small prototype builds with a contract manufacturer

· Perform electronic, software, and mechanical fabrication to construct test setups and test fixtures.

· Participate in Engineering quality assurance testing activities like:

o EMC (Electro-Magnetic Compatibility) pre-testing including but not limited to FCC, CE, etc.

o Environmental and Temperature testing

o Shock, freefall, and vibration testing

· Write any necessary test reports in accordance with above if needed

· Create and maintain documentation for processes

· Participate in engineering reviews.

Review schematics created by a hardware engineer.

· Maintains & enhances familiarity with electrical / electronic / lighting / optics principles necessary to facilitate the development of the same, as well as an application test-bench to validate electronic circuits

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

· Experience with digital circuits containing microcontrollers and DSPs

· Experience with PCB’s and excellent fine pitch soldering and rework skills

· Ability to work with small hand tools with precision

· Experience crimping and soldering connectors

· Experience with test equipment like DMMs, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers

· Ability to write technical documents clearly and concisely

· Ability to write software scripts to help automate testing a plus

· Electronic design skills a big plus

· Machine Vision/Image processing hardware experience a big plus

· Ability to work independently or as part of a team

Minimum education and work experience required:

· Electronics Technician degree, certification, or equivalent training required

· 2
– 5 years experience as an electronic technician

· Electronic Technician Certification will be partially considered in lieu of experience
