Library Technology Assistant 4.0 hours per day for 193 days/year 7:45 am – 11:45 am $16.63 – $21.67/hour (depending on experience) Palisades World Language School Note – bilingual in Spanish or Chinese preferred JOB SUMMARY This position manages and maintains a school library with the guidance of the District Librarian. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Essential duties of this position include the following tasks. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned at any time.Assists students and staff with library use, including check in and check out of library and curriculum materials, locating library materials, accessing and using electronic resources, and using computer and other equipment.Operates and maintains electronic, computerized circulation and cataloging system for books and other library materials, as well as adding and withdrawing library materials under the direction of the District municates with school staff regarding the library schedule and policies, and manages the library and library computer lab calendars.Enforces standards for library behavior and assists teachers with student supervision while students are present in the school library.Prepares lists of library supplies for ordering; works with the District Librarian to order new library books and anizes the library to enhance student spects incoming orders of new books and materials, verifies shipments against packing slips, processes new materials, and prepares current materials for display or other placement in the school library.Troubleshoots technology problems according to CNS guidelines, and submits CNS work orders for issues that cannot be resolved by first-line troubleshooting.Operates audio-visual and other library equipment/devices.Takes reasonable precautions to protect library equipment, materials and facilities.Conducts periodic annual inventory of library materials as needed. Prepares lists of missing/lost books and other library materials, sends overdue/lost/damaged materials notices, and discards outdated books/materials with the District Librarian’s approval.Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of all district policies and procedures.Consistent, daily and punctual attendance. NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Non-essential duties of this position include the following tasks. Employees in this position perform some or all of these tasks. Other duties may be assigned at any time.Operates, troubleshoots and maintains various office equipment including projectors, audio visual equipment/devices and photocopy machines..Attends in-service trainings, staff meetings and other meetings as assigned.Reports issues to the principal and the appropriate authorities including safety, sanitary and fire hazards, vandalism, thefts and errant wildlife. OTHER REQUIREMENTSConsistently follows all applicable federal and state laws and all district policies, rules and supervisor directions.Observes ergonomics of sedentary office work including placement of computers and monitors, and sitting alignment.Observes proper lifting techniques and other strategies to avoid accidents and personal injury while performing job duties.Performs other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Associate Degree or two years of college/university study is preferred. Knowledge of basic first aid procedures is preferred. Experience with computerized library procedures including inventory control, materials check-in/check-out and identification of obsolete materials is terpersonal Skills: Works well with others from diverse backgrounds. Focuses on solving conflict, maintaining confidentiality, listening to others, keeping emotions under control, remaining open to others’ ideas and contributing to building a positive team spirit. Demonstrates the ability to remain calm and professional in an environment with frequent interruptions. Interacts with staff and students appropriately.Language Skills: Ability to communicate English fluently both verbally and in writing, including proficiency in spelling and grammar. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, staff, regulatory agencies, vendors and members of the community. Ability to read and interpret documents including governmental regulations, safety rules and operating and maintenance instructions/ instruction manuals. Ability to prepare routine reports and correspondence with high degrees of accuracy and professionalism.Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to calculate rates, ratios, percentages and proportions. Ability to read and interpret various charts, bar graphs and similar visual data depictions.Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in oral, schedule or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving more than one puter Skills: Ability to effectively use office computers and internet access for email, research, word processing, database manipulation, visual presentations and general web-based applications.Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to exercise good judgment and work effectively in a dynamic environment.Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: A valid First Aid card is preferred. Must have or be able to obtain various certificates, licenses and/or registrations as required by federal, state or local law(s) and/or determined by the district, including a valid Oregon Driver’s License. The noise level of the work environment is usually low to moderate, but occasionally high depending upon the location, the student population and current activities. Special Requirements: The person selected for this position must be able to provide: proof of educational requirements, verify identity and employment authorization, complete a pre-employment record check and be approved by the State Department of Education after having a Fingerprint-Based Criminal History Verification completed. The selected candidate will pay $10-$20 for a set of fingerprints and $59.00 for the verification check.
