The Lumber Yard Associate is also responsible for keeping the yards clean and stocking inventory.This position reports to the Yard Manager and works closely with external and internal customers.Duties and ResponsibilitiesTasks:Safely, accurately and efficiently load customer vehicles with orders of building materialsEnsure that appropriate paperwork is completed as per company policyReceive delivered inventory by properly inspecting paperwork for accuracy and by depositing inventory in designated locationsInspects stock and returned items to ensure salable qualityPuts stock away in correct location and nicelyProvides required paperwork for change ordersCompletes inventory adjustmentsParticipates with inventory preparation and post proceduresReads and follows instructions on pick ticketsOpens and closes warehouse and yard when necessaryJob Knowledge:Complete Blue-Volt training as necessarySeeks to learn products and the applications and attends product knowledge meetingsKnows product locations in yard and warehouseAbility to read a measuring tape and carries one at all timesUnderstands product terminology and gradingKeeps forklift cleanMaintain yard cleanliness during course of workAdhere to company procedures, policies and protocols as set forth in the Employees HandbookSafety:Wears high visibility, safety gear, and proper uniformPerforms daily lift inspectionsAlways looks behind/honks horn when backing/rounding blind cornersSafely operates equipmentPromptly report all accidents/incidents and damaged productsPerform daily safety audit of forklift and promptly report any malfunctioning equipmentKeep aisles and exits clearAttaches red safety flag to over-length productParticipates on safety committee if neededUnderstands weight, height, and length limits to inform customer of being able to safely handle or transport materialConsistently follows safety protocolsCustomer Service:Quickly greets and assists all customersReviews and completes hold harmless form with customersShares product knowledge with customersPulls orders and stages for will callsTeamwork:Assists with material returnsParticipates in team meetings and discussionsAssist other team members with their work when appropriateCommunicates with all coworkers and uses those relationships to solve problemsCross-trains for driving, counter sales, receiving, and load building as neededResponds quickly to radioRegularly checks stock in computer system and reports low inventory when neededAs time allows and when needed, load and off-load delivery trucks both by hand and with a forkliftQualificationsQualifications Include:High school diploma or GED equivalentOSHA Certified Forklift License preferredKnowledge of receiving/inventory control principles, practices and protocolsKnowledge of dimension lumber and panel products and other building materialsAbility to read and interpret ” Picking tickets” and invoicesAbility to concentrate and attend to detail amidst a busy work environmentGeneral knowledge and use of power toolsInterpersonal Skills:Ability to work cordially, professionally, diplomatically and with a high level of customer service in a dynamic environment.Demonstrate sound judgment in dealing with sensitive business matters with internal and external customers of all types.
