Director – Origination

The Director Origination will be responsible for leading the sales team responsible for optimizing and locking in value associated with the company’s national merchant portfolio which includes leveraging other team members to deploy customized product solutions that enhances the value for the merchant assets as it relates to each component of the value chain (i.e.

energy, capacity, environmental attributes).

Responsible for managing the structure and preparation of product offerings, delivery arrangements, contract negotiations, internal approval process, and mid/back-office coordination and follow-through.

Maintain a thorough understanding of the physical delivery capabilities, RTOs, and supply demand balances in the market region, with detailed understanding of transmission tariffs, operating procedures, and the assets physical capabilities.

This position would be located in Portland, Oregon reporting to the VP of Renewable Strategy and Origination and may include considerable travel.

Responsible for execution of hedges for existing merchant asset length, creating a plan and market strategy for the target markets in which these assets reside.

Identify and execute opportunities to enhance earnings, reduce risk, or otherwise optimize the Company’s merchant portfolio via structures and products other than traditional Power Purchase Agreements.

Manage and lead team of professionals in prospecting for new opportunities, coordinate internal support necessary for developing the key inputs required for profitable pricing.

Build and maintain high-level relationships with electric utility executives and corporate energy buyers and other key personnel of targeted clients in assigned region.

Expand the pipeline of sales opportunities by generating high quality leads.

Assess and translate market competition, industry trends, emerging customer challenges and changes in the marketplace into market strategies and product offerings.

Develop tactical execution plans for target clients.

Responsible for negotiating and coordinating the delivery of products and services with suppliers, end-use customers, and transmission providers.

Lead the internal team through all aspects of a complex sales process to successful closing.

Ability to create and participate in a team atmosphere by collaborating with internal departments including Trading & Energy Management, Asset Management, Risk/Credit, Legal and Back-Office in support of sales process.

Collaborate with policy/regulatory and Market Structure groups to identify and develop new market opportunities and craft value propositions to serve target market and/or customers.

Furthermore, provide regulatory support on issues impacting market area.

Skills and Requirements

Education & Experience Required :
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Finance, Business or related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience -MBA preferred 10 + years’ experience in the energy industry, ideally in renewable energy sales,  Experience in complex selling, introducing new product and service offerings, and developing corresponding value propositions Demonstrated knowledge of renewable energy markets and power market design , Extensive portfolio of industry contacts preferred , Knowledge and understanding of developing renewable energy generating facilities, thermal resource application, and the marketing/origination of those resources preferred
Strong leadership and strategic skills with an ability to balance and prioritize competing interests, Ability to perform and interpret financial analysis and provide appropriate data and information Demonstrated ability to develop new business relationships quickly and to close business opportunities .

  Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing and interfacing effectively with cross-functional internal groups of all levels and competencies Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills ,   Excellent interpersonal and time management skills ,   Entrepreneurial, self-starter.
