Job Title:Production Engineering ManagerHillsboro, ORJob Description:CMC Materials has an outstanding opportunity for individuals with leadership abilities and potential to join our Operations team as a Production Engineering Manager over our Blend and Cast module. This Engineering Manager role will directly lead the Engineers in charge of the processes, product and equipment in the Blend/Cast module. This role will direct activities for running day to day engineering operations, solving problems, and process & equipment continuous improvement work. They will also develop and drive towards a vision for improving and optimizing the engineering processes and systems.The team reporting to this manager will own sustaining and quality assurance activities for commercial products as well as continuous improvement projects to drive process efficiency and reduce product variation. The manager will work closely with site leaders from the various business functions in order to ensure all functions are supported appropriately from the Blend & Cast engineers for manufacturing excellence. The position is within the CMP Polishing Pads Business and reports to the Hillsboro Production Engineering Manager.Key Results/Responsibilities:* Directly lead a team of engineers in all aspects of owning and sustaining the manufacturing operations. This includes performance evaluations, coaching, mentoring, appropriately allocating resources, directing all daily activities, and making decisions to drive towards optimized and efficient manufacturing and engineering practices.* Drive productivity as well as the engineering team’s activities by finding opportunities and implementing solutions to improve safety, quality, productivity, and cost. Supervise and lead continuous improvement plans.* Lead root cause investigations of manufacturing out-of-control conditions by troubleshooting equipment and processes, observing and performing experiments, locating the source of problems and implementing permanent effective corrective actions.* Ensure suitable representation and engagement for NPI and new process introductions to have optimal early engagement and eventual successful transfer to HVM.* Reduce variation in product and process parameters by identifying key contributors to variation and implementing effective control systems and enhanced manufacturing processes.* Sustain and improve on quality levels of the manufacturing process. Activities include leading the engineering team on dispositioning of non-conforming materials (raw materials, intermediates and finished goods), establishing/reviewing/updating SPC/SQC control limits, maintaining FMEAs and Control Plans, and participating in customer quality and ISO audits.* Act as the ultimate equipment and process owner and continuously build the knowledge of the engineers on the team to an experienced level.* Mentor the Production Engineers and direct the role’s day-to-day and long-term project activities based on business need.* Lead team in developing and executing Design of Experiment trials, run new product scale-ups, and properly resource new equipment installations & qualifications as guided by business need.* Drive the team towards the development of processing equipment, operating programs and parameters.* Lead machine breakdown resolution by providing guidance to remedy and correct issues.* Assist in improving upon the preventative maintenance program to optimize machine and equipment uptime for production.* Participate as a member of a global engineering team and leadership team to transfer standard methodologies across sites and unit operations.Key knowledge, skills, and abilities:* Equipment maintenance/repair and technical understanding of production machines required.* Ability to read operation manuals, engineering specifications and diagrams required.* Strong statistical knowledge and background related to Six Sigma, SPC/SQC, and Lean Manufacturing required.* Proficient English interpersonal skills (verbal and written) required.* Self-directed and ability to work without supervision.* Strong problem solving and analysis.* Planning and organization; collaboration and teamwork with multi-functional teams.* Effective oral and written communication skills including technical presentations to management.* Proven business acuity and professionalism.* Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems preferred.* Engineering knowledge and experience with thermoset compression molding and/or chemical mixing/blending operations is a plus.* Knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) computer systems is ideal* Shown understanding of programmable logic controllers (PLC) and experience in testing, maintaining and modifying existing control systems a plus.* Flexibility in schedule to meet manufacturing/business needs including ‘on call’ Operations Associate support on evenings and weekends as vital.* Up to 5% travel within the US.Applicable Education, Experience, Licensing, Capabilities:* Bachelor degree in Polymer, Chemical, Materials, or Mechanical Engineering or related technical field required.* Minimum 6 years of experience in manufacturing required with semiconductor/polymer processing industry being preferred.* Validated leadership ability and team building skills required.
